Ablesign: show the display screen on a Fire TV Stick

This guide gets the What When Where display screen onto a TV using an Amazon Fire TV Stick (Firestick).

What you need

  • A Fire TV Stick plugged into the TV, connected to wifi.
  • Your town's screen address (see Display screen), for example https://whatwhenwhere.com.au/community/your-town.

What is supported

The screen is an ordinary web page built to work in the simple browsers used on TV sticks, with no interaction needed. Anything that can open the address full-screen and stay on it will work.

TODO (client): Write the Fire TV Stick steps: which browser app (for example Silk or the signage player the client recommends), how to open the address, how to make it start automatically after a power cut, and how to stop the stick going to sleep.

TODO (client): Describe how Ablesign fits in (what it is, the player app, how a venue adds the web address as content) and add screenshots from a real device. The code is written to run in Ablesign players but the venue steps have not been captured yet.

TODO (client): Confirm the 'display screen checked on a real Chromecast / Ablesign TV' go-live item is ticked before this is published.
