Categories: what they are and how to ask for a new one

Categories are the labels on events and listings, like Music, Cafe, Community Group or Public Toilet. Each one has a small icon. They are how people find things with filters, and how the newsletter picks what to send.

How they work

• Pick as many as fit. A cafe that is also a cinema can be both.
• Events and businesses share one list, though some only make sense for one of them (for example, Public Toilet is for places).
• The list is the same for every town and is looked after centrally, so it stays tidy.

Asking for another category

Email support@whatwhenwhere.info with the name you would like, an example of something that would use it, and your town. We will let you know if it can be added.

TODO (client): Confirm the request process (email only, or a form) and the target turnaround. Community admins cannot add categories themselves today; only platform admins can, in Admin -> Categories.
