Emergency alert banner: what does this mean?
If you see a red banner across the top of What When Where, your town's community admins have switched on emergency mode. It means there is something happening locally that people should know about, such as a fire, flood or road closure.

What the banner says
- A short heading and message written by your local admins, such as where the evacuation centre is.
- Up to four links, for example to the Rural Fire Service "Fires Near Me" page.
- If the admins have not written their own message, it shows the latest emergency alert sent in the last three days, word for word.
What to do
- Read the message and follow any links.
- Always follow official warnings from the emergency services and ABC Local Radio. What When Where is a community tool and is not a replacement for them.
- In an emergency call 000.
Get alerts on your phone
Install the app and turn on Emergency alerts for your town (see Notifications). Emergency alerts arrive straight away, at any hour. You can also get them by email when you sign up for the newsletter.
When does it go away?
The banner stays up until your community admins switch emergency mode off.
TODO (client): Confirm the wording about official sources (000, ABC Local Radio, state emergency apps) that the client wants here.
